I moved from North Carolina, where I spent most of my formative years, to Chicago in 2002. I traded a fledgling career in research science for writing because I wanted to know a little about a lot of things rather than a lot about one specific thing. Writing about science lets me do that. I have the privilege of taking what amounts to a master class from experts on every topic I cover, including gravitational waves, dinosaur fossils, immunotherapy, and DNA machinery. I’m grateful that there’s still so much to learn.
